## What is RICE?

### Origin
RICE was developed by the product team at Intercom. They tried other frameworks but none fit their decision-making needs exactly.

RICE provides:
- Objective comparison of initiatives
- Common language for prioritization debates
- Data-driven decision making
- Transparent trade-off visibility

### The Formula
RICE Score = (Reach × Impact × Confidence) / Effort
Higher score = Higher priority

## The Four Factors

### R - REACH
How many people/events will this affect in a given time period?
Units: Number per time period

### I - IMPACT
How much will this move the needle for each person reached?
Scale: 3=Massive, 2=High, 1=Medium, 0.5=Low, 0.25=Minimal

### C - CONFIDENCE
How confident are you in your estimates?
Scale: 100%=High, 80%=Medium, 50%=Low

### E - EFFORT
Total effort required from all team members.
Units: Person-months

## How to Request

Tell me:

4. Team capacity if known
5. Any estimates you already have
