Course Syllabus

Prerequisites

  • Basic experience with any AI assistant (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, or similar)
  • Some writing experience — this course assumes you already write but want to work faster and better

Every writer has stared at a blank page and wished for a thought partner. Someone to bounce ideas off, test an outline against, or help polish a rough paragraph into something that sings.

AI writing tools aren’t that partner — not exactly. But they’re remarkably good at the parts of writing that slow you down: researching context, generating outlines, catching weak sentences, and producing variations when you’re stuck. The trick is knowing when to hand off to AI and when to keep it human.

This course teaches you to integrate AI into your writing process — from the first blank page to the published piece — without losing the voice and judgment that make your writing yours.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will this course teach me to let AI write everything for me?

No — and that's the point. You'll learn to use AI as a collaborator that handles the tedious parts (research, outlining, first-pass editing) while you focus on what makes writing yours: voice, insight, and storytelling.

Which AI tool do I need?

Any general-purpose AI assistant works — ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini. We cover specialized tools like Sudowrite and Grammarly AI too, but you don't need paid subscriptions to complete the exercises.

I write fiction. Is this course relevant?

Yes. We cover fiction-specific techniques including character development, plot brainstorming, dialogue refinement, and working with tools like Sudowrite. Lessons 3-6 include fiction examples alongside non-fiction.

What about AI detection and plagiarism concerns?

Lesson 7 covers this in depth — how AI detection works, its accuracy and limitations, disclosure requirements, and how the publishing industry handles AI-assisted work. We address it honestly, not with scare tactics.
