Claude for Small Business Pricing: New Plan or a Free Toggle?

Anthropic launched Claude for Small Business on May 13. Here is the real monthly cost for a 3-person agency vs a 10-person team — with the toggle, plans, and integration math.

Anthropic shipped Claude for Small Business on Wednesday, May 13, and the question I have seen most often since then is the same one I had: do I need to buy a new plan, or is this something I already have?

The short answer: you already have it, if you pay for Claude.

Claude for Small Business is not a new pricing tier. It is a toggle inside Claude Cowork, and the toggle works on any paying plan — Pro at $20 a month, Max at $100 or $200 a month, or Team at $25 to $30 per seat. TechCrunch confirmed this in its launch coverage on the same day: the SMB feature set is “available via a newly introduced toggle within Claude Cowork.” There is no separate SKU. There is no upgrade prompt. The integrations are the same connector library you have been clicking through all spring, just with 15 pre-built workflows pointed at small-business problems.

That part is genuinely good news. The pricing math that actually matters is not what Anthropic charges. It is everything else.

What just changed on May 13

Cowork is Claude’s task-automation layer. It is where you give Claude a goal — “process last week’s invoices and chase the late ones” — and Claude plans the steps, fetches the data from your connected apps, and stops to ask before it sends, posts, or pays anything. That last part is important and I will come back to it.

The May 13 launch added three things on top of that existing surface:

  1. Fifteen pre-built workflows. Things like payroll planning (Claude reconciles QuickBooks cash against PayPal settlements and gives you a 30-day forecast with overdue items ranked), monthly close (reconciliation plus a plain-English P&L plus a close packet for your accountant), business pulse dashboard, campaign runner (HubSpot analysis to promo strategy to Canva assets to send queue), invoice chaser, lead triager, contract reviewer. Anthropic groups them into six categories: finance, operations, sales, marketing, HR, and customer service.
  2. A connector library aimed at SMB software. QuickBooks, PayPal, HubSpot, Canva, DocuSign, Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, Square, Stripe, Slack, Gmail, Google Drive, Google Calendar, and Webflow. If you have OAuth-authorized those apps before, the install is roughly two minutes per app.
  3. A free AI Fluency for Small Business course co-produced with PayPal. Nine lessons, on-demand, certificate at the end. I will write that one up separately because it is more interesting than the press releases made it sound.

To turn the feature set on inside Cowork, you flip the toggle in the side panel and pick a workflow. That is it.

The real pricing math

Here is the part that surprised me when I worked it out properly. Anthropic gives you the workflows for free. The cost is everything you already pay for the apps Claude needs to do the work.

Now let me show you what this looks like in two real scenarios.

Scenario one: a 3-person solo agency on Pro

You are a founder with two contractors. You bill clients through QuickBooks, your CRM is HubSpot Starter, you do client decks in Canva, and you send contracts through DocuSign once or twice a month. You all share a Google Workspace.

What changes from May 13: nothing on the line items. But Claude can now run the invoice chaser end-to-end (reads QuickBooks, drafts emails in your voice, queues them for one-click approval), the monthly close (reconciles cash, drafts the P&L, builds a close packet for the accountant), and the campaign runner (reads HubSpot data, drafts the promo, generates Canva variants, builds the send list). What you save is hours, not dollars.

Scenario two: a 10-person team on Team Standard

You have a manager, four account staff, three creatives, and two operations people. Your stack is heavier.

The interesting number here is the $250 line — ten seats of Claude at the annual rate, which is the cheapest seat math Anthropic offers a small team. If you billed monthly instead of annually, you would pay $300 for that row and your total would tick up to about $800.

Real-world triangulation: small agencies running HubSpot, QuickBooks, and Canva Pro for a 5-person team typically reported $300 to $400 a month in SaaS costs before Claude. Adding Claude Team Standard at five seats is $125 a month on annual billing, so a lean 5-person team comes in around $425 to $525 all-in. That is the bracket to plan around.

What this means for you

The “did this launch change anything for me” answer depends on which Claude plan you already have and what the rest of your stack looks like.

If you are on Claude Pro right now and you already have QuickBooks plus one of HubSpot, Canva, or DocuSign: turn the toggle on this weekend. There is no new spend. The invoice chaser alone is worth opening Cowork. Start with one workflow, run it on real data, and watch the approval prompts — those are the moments where Claude pauses and asks you to confirm before sending an email or posting a campaign.

If you are on Claude Pro but your stack is sparser — maybe just Google Workspace and Gmail: the marketing workflows will feel partial because they need somewhere to land the campaign data. You will get value from the document-generation and customer-support workflows, less from the finance and operations ones until you add QuickBooks or a CRM.

If you are on Team and you have an in-house bookkeeper or controller: the monthly close workflow is the one to test first. Claude does not replace your bookkeeper; it gives them a 30-minute head start on the reconciliation and a draft P&L they can sanity-check rather than build from scratch. Worth one full cycle to see if it sticks.

If you are evaluating Claude vs. Microsoft Copilot for Microsoft 365 ($30 / user / month) or vs. Google Workspace AI: the line that matters is the connector library, not the model. Copilot is unmatched if your business runs on Microsoft 365 and nothing else. Claude is unmatched if your business runs on a mix — QuickBooks for accounting, HubSpot for sales, Canva for creative — because Anthropic shipped the connectors for all of them and Microsoft did not.

What this can’t fix

A few honest limits you should know about before you turn it on.

  1. Claude cannot see anything your account cannot see. The permission model is OAuth-style: if an employee does not have access to a QuickBooks report or a specific Google Drive folder today, Claude does not get it either. This is good for governance and a real ceiling on what “automation” can do. If your team’s permissions are messy, Claude will inherit the mess.
  2. Approval before sending, posting, or paying is the default. Every action that touches the outside world stops for your sign-off unless you specifically turn on an end-to-end autonomous mode for that workflow. This is by design. It is also the reason people who expected a “fire it once and forget it” experience are getting frustrated on day one — Claude is built more like a careful assistant than an autonomous agent.
  3. It does not bundle the third-party tools. Anthropic does not give you discounted QuickBooks, free HubSpot, or anything similar. If you are not paying for those tools today, the workflows that depend on them will not work.
  4. HubSpot Professional is a different conversation. If you are still on free or starter HubSpot, you will hit the report and automation limits in the workflows quickly. The campaign runner and lead triager assume you can build segments and trigger emails programmatically, which Free HubSpot cannot do.
  5. The free PayPal-Anthropic course is good, but it is a fluency course, not a setup tutorial. It will teach you what AI is good at and how to evaluate outputs. It will not walk you through configuring the QuickBooks connector or building a custom skill. Those are still on you.

The bottom line

If you pay for Claude today, the May 13 launch is free, the integrations are free, and the workflows are free. The cost is the SaaS stack you already have. A 3-person agency runs around $223 a month all-in; a 10-person team runs around $750. The thing Anthropic actually shipped is not a product — it is a set of high-leverage workflow templates and a connector library aimed at small businesses, sitting on the same Cowork surface you already had.
