AI for Procurement & Sourcing
Use AI for spend analysis, RFP drafting, bid scoring, supplier risk, and buyer-side negotiation prep — with the guardrails that keep the award a human's. 8 lessons, certificate.
Procurement is where money leaves the company, so a wrong move here doesn’t just cost time — it locks the business into the wrong supplier, the wrong price, or the wrong risk for years. That’s exactly why most buyers had the same reaction when AI reached the sourcing floor in 2026: I can see the time it could save me, I just can’t see how to use it without leaking a supplier’s bid or letting a chatbot pick the winner.
This course closes that gap. It’s built for the procurement professional — the category manager, the buyer, the sourcing analyst, the vendor manager — who knows RFx, spend, and suppliers cold but is new to AI. We start with the guardrails that keep procurement clean no matter how good the tools get: a human decides the award, confidential supplier data never goes into a consumer AI tool, and every AI-surfaced fact gets verified before you rely on it. Everything else is built on top of those rules.
From there you ship real work, and you do it on tools you already have. There’s no Coupa or Ariba seat required — every exercise runs on ChatGPT or Claude with data you paste in yourself. Lesson 2 gets a draft RFP section and a weighted scoring matrix out of a blank page in twenty minutes. Then we move through the procurement job the way it actually runs: reading a messy spend file to find maverick spend and savings, discovering and comparing suppliers without letting AI play favorites, prepping a negotiation from the buyer’s seat with a should-cost view and a real BATNA, and screening supplier risk across financial, compliance, ESG, and concentration — then verifying it. You finish by assembling a Category Sourcing Pack for a category you actually buy, ready to take straight to work.
What You'll Learn
- Explain what AI does across the procurement function and the guardrails that keep it safe — a human decides the award, confidential supplier data never goes into consumer AI, and every AI-surfaced supplier fact gets verified
- Use ChatGPT or Claude to draft an RFP section and a weighted scoring matrix in under 20 minutes — on a free plan, with no procurement-suite seat
- Apply AI to a messy spend file to categorize line items, flag maverick and duplicate spend, and surface savings opportunities you can act on
- Analyze AI-scored supplier bids and proposals, adjusting the weights and overriding the AI's scores with your own justification
- Design buyer-side negotiation prep — a should-cost view, your BATNA, a concession ladder, and the redlines to request — before you ever sit down with a supplier
- Evaluate AI-generated supplier risk and due-diligence output across financial, compliance, ESG, and concentration risk for what a human must still verify

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a procurement suite like Coupa, SAP Ariba, or Zip to take this course?
No. Every hands-on lesson runs on ChatGPT or Claude — including free plans — using data you paste in yourself: a spend sample, a supplier list, a draft RFP. We explain what the agentic suites (Coupa Navi, SAP Ariba Joule, Zip, Keelvar, Pactum) do so you understand the landscape your company may already be buying, but you never need a seat to do the exercises.
How is this different from a finance or accounts-payable course?
Procurement is the buy side — sourcing suppliers, running RFx, analyzing spend, prepping negotiations, and managing supplier risk. That all happens before a single invoice is paid. AP, treasury, and controllership are downstream: they pay the invoice, manage the cash, and close the books. This course stays on the sourcing-to-contract part of the job and hands off to those functions where they begin.
Is it safe to use AI on real supplier and pricing data?
Only inside the guardrails this course is built around. You never paste confidential supplier bids, pricing, contracts, or anyone's personal data into a consumer AI tool — that's a legal and ethical line, and Lesson 1 and Lesson 7 show you exactly where it sits and how to anonymize so you can still get the work done. AI drafts, scores, and flags; a human verifies the facts and decides the award.
How long does the course take and do I get a certificate?
About two and a half hours at your own pace, across 8 lessons of 12-22 minutes each with copy-paste prompts you can run immediately. Complete all lessons and pass the quizzes to earn a verifiable certificate.
