AI for Career Coaches: Guide a ChatGPT-Powered Job Search
Run ChatGPT's new job-search and resume tools in a live client session. 8 lessons on tailoring without faking it, the auto-rejection tells, and the human layer.
For the first time, the tool your client is already using can run the boring middle of a job search — find live listings, tailor a resume to a specific posting, draft a cover letter — in minutes instead of weekends. ChatGPT’s June 2026 update put job search and a resume studio directly inside the chat. Your clients have noticed. Some are arriving at sessions with AI-written resumes and a quiet worry: will this get me rejected?
This course answers both halves of that moment. The productivity is real — a university career-services audit clocked a 22.7 percent callback lift from AI-assisted resumes. But the same audit found the lift jumped to 31.4 percent when a human reviewed the AI’s work. That gap is your job. The tool drafts; you coach.
Most “ChatGPT for job search” guides teach a seeker to push buttons. This one teaches a coach to run the session — the structure, the guardrails you enforce on someone else’s behalf, and the recruiter-psychology layer a model structurally can’t reach. By Lesson 2 you’ll have run a live search against a real posting. By Lesson 4 you’ll spot the three tells that read as generic — the actual reason resumes get auto-deleted, which is never “because it was AI.” By the capstone you’ll run a full mock session end to end.
It pairs naturally with AI Interview Preparation for the step that comes after the resume, and AI for Job Seekers if you want a version to hand clients directly. If you want the news framing first, read our blog post on running a ChatGPT job search in 15 minutes. This course is where you go from knowing the feature exists to coaching with it well.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a paid ChatGPT plan to take this course?
No. The resume tools (upload, create, tailor, download) work on the free tier in English worldwide. The live job-search feature is US-only at launch but available on Free, Go, Plus, and Pro. Lessons 1 and 2 are free and get you to a working result; the deeper coaching workflow in Lessons 3-8 is Pro.
Will an AI-assisted resume get my client auto-rejected?
No — and correcting that fear is one of the first things this course does. In blind tests, hiring managers identify AI-written resumes only about a third of the time, even though most claim they always can. What gets rejected is generic, not AI. Applicant tracking systems rank keywords and relevance; they don't flag authorship. Lesson 4 teaches the exact tells that read as generic and how to fix them.
Does this replace what a career coach does?
The opposite. A 2024 university career-services audit found AI-assisted resumes lifted callbacks 22.7 percent — and AI plus human review lifted them 31.4 percent. The human review is the difference. This course is built around the layer ChatGPT can't reach: readiness judgment, recruiter psychology, the honest conversation about whether a client is actually a fit. The tool drafts; you coach.
Is it ethical to use ChatGPT for a client's job application?
Used as an analysis and preparation engine, yes. Used as a ghostwriter that fabricates experience, no — and roughly one in nine candidates report being passed over when undisclosed AI use surfaced as dishonesty, not as 'AI.' The course draws that line in every lesson: AI edits and sharpens what's true, it never invents what isn't.
How is this different from your AI for Job Seekers course?
AI for Job Seekers teaches an individual to run their own search. This course teaches a coach to run the search with and for a client — the session structure, the guardrails you enforce on someone else's behalf, the recruiter-psychology layer you add on top, and the self-serve routine you hand off. It pairs naturally with AI Interview Preparation for the step that comes next.
