TL;DR. Claude Dashboards is Anthropic’s beta feature, launched October 8, 2026, that turns a plain-English question into a live dashboard on a connected data warehouse or CRM such as Snowflake or Salesforce. It runs on paid plans, shows the query behind every number, and suits quick exploratory questions, not full BI replacement (Anthropic, 2026).

On October 8, 2026, Anthropic added a feature to Claude that sounds simple and is easy to misread: you ask a question about your company’s numbers, and Claude hands back a dashboard that keeps itself up to date. The same announcement bundled a second beta, Claude Motion, and took the beta label off Claude Docs, Slides and Design. Within a day, some write-ups were calling the whole package “free for everyone,” which is not true of the part this page is about.
Claude Dashboards is a Claude feature that builds a live dashboard from a plain-language question, using a data platform you have connected, such as Amazon Redshift, BigQuery, ClickHouse, Databricks or Snowflake, or a connector such as Salesforce. In plain terms: instead of filing a ticket with whoever writes SQL, you ask Claude, and it shows its work. We track terms like this one because launch posts rarely explain who can actually use the thing.
Why It Matters Now
Claude Dashboards matters because it moves a task that used to need an analyst, a ticket or a BI license into a chat window, and because it arrived as part of a visible race: OpenAI shipped a comparable Data agent about a month earlier. That race makes “ask your data a question” a normal expectation for business software over the coming year, whichever vendor you use.
- The launch date and scope are on Anthropic’s own page. Anthropic’s October 8, 2026 announcement says Dashboards “connects to a data platform like BigQuery, Databricks or Snowflake, or a CRM tool like Salesforce, and is in beta on paid plans,” while Motion is in beta on Team and Enterprise (Anthropic, October 8, 2026).
- It is a response to a competitor. The New Stack reported that Anthropic’s release came “a month after OpenAI gave ChatGPT Work a data agent that builds dashboards,” and noted that the supported vendors differ slightly but the direction is the same (The New Stack, October 8, 2026).
- It is enterprise-first. On Enterprise plans Dashboards is off until an admin switches it on under Organization settings, then Artifacts (Anthropic, October 8, 2026).
- Search demand has not formed yet. In FindSkill’s DataForSEO pull on October 9, 2026, “claude dashboards” returned no measurable monthly volume, while the broader “ai dashboard” term showed roughly 2,400 searches a month, mostly people shopping for tools. Treat this as an early term, not an established one.
How It Actually Works
Claude Dashboards works in four moves: you connect a data source, ask a question in plain language, Claude queries the data and draws the charts, and the dashboard refreshes as the underlying data changes. Anthropic’s design choice that matters most is transparency, because every number is traceable to a query you can read.
The mechanism, step by step:
- Connect a source. Anthropic lists Amazon Redshift, BigQuery, ClickHouse, Databricks and Snowflake, plus “other connectors,” with Salesforce as its example. Someone on your side, often an admin, usually has to set this up.
- Ask in plain language. Anthropic’s own example prompt is “Build a dashboard of this quarter’s revenue by region.”
- Claude builds it. It pulls answers from your data, builds the charts, and “keeps it current as the data changes.”
- Inspect and share. Click any number to see the query behind it, or ask Claude to explain it. Each chart shows when its data was last refreshed. From there you can share the dashboard or send it on to a BI tool.
A worked example makes the “show your work” idea concrete. Suppose a subscription business asks, “How do this week’s signups compare with last month’s?” Claude returns a chart with two bars. You click the bigger bar and see a query that counts rows in a signups table between two dates. If the query counts trial starts but you meant paid conversions, you can see that mismatch in seconds and say so. That is the practical value of visible queries: the dashboard is a draft you can audit, not an oracle.
The New Stack added a useful detail from Anthropic: Dashboards will also support semantic models, which are shared business definitions such as what counts as “active customer,” if they are exposed through a connector. That matters because most wrong numbers in company reporting come from disagreements about definitions, not arithmetic.
What Claude Dashboards Is Not
Claude Dashboards is not Claude Motion, not Claude Slides, and not a spreadsheet feature, even though all of them appeared in the same week. Keeping the neighbors straight prevents most of the confusion, so this section answers it directly with one comparison.
| Thing | What it does | Who gets it | Needs |
|---|---|---|---|
| Claude Dashboards | Live dashboard from a question | Paid plans (beta); admin turns on for Enterprise | Warehouse or CRM connector |
| Claude Motion | Turns reports and charts into a short MP4 animation | Team and Enterprise (beta) | Your own content to animate |
| Claude Docs, Slides, Design | Documents, decks and designs in chat | Every plan, including Free (since September 16) | Nothing special |
| Claude for Google Workspace | Claude sidebar inside Docs, Sheets and Slides | All paid plans (public beta, October 6) | Add-on from Google Workspace Marketplace |
| OpenAI Data agent | Dashboards inside ChatGPT Work | ChatGPT Work customers | Admin-configured data connections |
Two of those rows trip people up. First, the “free” confusion: Anthropic’s release notes for September 16, 2026 already said that “Artifacts, including Claude Design, Claude Slides, and Claude Docs, are available on every plan, including Free.” The October 8 change was taking the beta label off and, for Enterprise, switching them on by default on October 15. Dashboards was never part of the free set. You can read how that earlier launch works in our explainer on Claude Slides.
Second, Claude Motion is a different kind of tool. Anthropic says it “doesn’t use a video generation model,” so there is no generated footage and no AI-generated people; Claude writes editable code that animates your own text, charts, shapes and images, and you download the result as an MP4. It is for explaining your own work, such as turning a quarterly report into a 30-second explainer.
Where It Shows Up in Real Work
Claude Dashboards shows up where a question about business data would otherwise wait in someone’s queue. Anthropic’s own framing is narrow and honest: it suits “quick, exploratory questions,” and it hands off to specialist tools when a question needs deeper analysis. The table lists realistic uses from the connectors Anthropic names, with the caveat that each depends on your company having the data connected.
| Use case | Typical question | Data source Anthropic names | Better tool when it gets serious |
|---|---|---|---|
| Revenue by region | “Build a dashboard of this quarter’s revenue by region” | Warehouse such as Snowflake or BigQuery | A governed BI dashboard |
| Pipeline review | “Show my Salesforce opportunities by stage” | Salesforce connector | CRM reports your team already trusts |
| Signup trends | “How do this week’s signups compare with last month’s?” | Warehouse or product analytics | Amplitude, Mixpanel or PostHog, which Anthropic lists as hand-off targets |
| Operations monitoring | “What did error rates do after Tuesday’s release?” | Warehouse such as ClickHouse | Grafana, also a listed hand-off |
Notice what is missing: a plain spreadsheet. Anthropic’s announcement does not list Google Sheets, CSV files or Google Drive as Dashboards sources. That gap is where most of the confusion for small teams starts, and the next sections return to it.
What this means for small business owners
Most small business owners do not have a Snowflake warehouse, and that is the honest headline: Claude Dashboards, as Anthropic describes it, is built for companies whose data already lives in a warehouse or CRM. If your numbers live in a spreadsheet, the more relevant October 6 launch is Claude for Google Workspace, where Anthropic says Claude in Sheets “can write formulas, build pivot tables and native Sheets charts, and add new tabs.”
If you do keep customers in Salesforce, the Dashboards connector route could give you a pipeline view without a report-building afternoon. Whichever route you take, one rule holds: do not paste private customer details into any sheet or tool just to get a chart. Our Claude for Small Business course covers connecting tools safely, and the Google Sheets Canvas page explains the spreadsheet-first alternative from Google. Our blog’s Google Sheets Canvas inventory dashboard walkthrough shows a no-warehouse version of the same idea.
What this means for accountants and bookkeepers
For accountants and bookkeepers, the interesting part of Claude Dashboards is the visible query, because reviewable work is the whole job. A dashboard that shows its query lets you check that “revenue” excluded refunds or that a date range respects the fiscal year before a client sees the chart.
The limit is access: Dashboards reads from connected data platforms, and most small-practice client data sits in accounting software or spreadsheets, not a warehouse. Until your clients’ data is in a connected platform, treat Dashboards as something to watch, and use Claude for Excel for the spreadsheet work you do today. Client data also raises confidentiality questions that a “private by default” setting does not answer by itself, so check your engagement terms before connecting anything. The Accountants and Finance course covers those controls.
What this means for marketers
Marketers get the most obvious near-term use: a live view of campaign or funnel numbers without waiting for an analyst, if the data is in a warehouse or an analytics tool Anthropic can reach through a connector. The hand-off list, which includes Amplitude, Mixpanel and PostHog, hints at who Anthropic expects to use it.
The risk for marketers is definitions. “Lead,” “conversion” and “customer” differ between teams, and a fast dashboard built on the wrong definition spreads the wrong number faster. Ask Claude to state the definition it used, read the query, and have the data owner confirm it once. For the storytelling side, the AI Data Storytelling course shows how to turn a verified chart into a point an executive will act on, and Claude Slides can carry it into a deck.
What this means for sales and customer success teams
Sales and customer success teams are the clearest fit for the CRM half of the feature, because Anthropic’s own example is “a dashboard of your Salesforce opportunities.” A rep or manager can ask for pipeline by stage or accounts at risk without exporting a report.
Because a shared dashboard runs each viewer’s queries through that viewer’s own connections, a manager sees what the manager is allowed to see, and a rep sees theirs. That is a sensible default for sales data. Still, a CRM is only as clean as the people entering data, so a confident-looking dashboard can sit on stale records. Pair it with the habits in the Sales Professionals course, and verify any figure you would quote to a customer.
What this means for freelancers and consultants
Freelancers and consultants will mostly meet Claude Dashboards through a client’s account rather than their own, since the feature needs a warehouse or CRM connection and most solo practices have neither. If a client gives you access to their Snowflake or Salesforce, a dashboard with visible queries is a fast way to explore before you propose anything.
On your own numbers, the spreadsheet-first route is more realistic: Claude for Google Workspace in Sheets, or a simple template. Whatever you build, keep client data inside what your contract allows. The Freelancers course covers client-data habits, and our Learn AI for Freelancers hub points to the rest.
Privacy, Sharing and Access
Claude Dashboards keeps access tied to the data permissions people already have, which is its most important safety property. An Anthropic spokesperson told The New Stack: “A dashboard starts private to you. When you share it, each viewer’s own connections run its queries by default, so people see only data they already have access to.”
- Private by default. Only you see a new dashboard until you share it.
- Viewer-level permissions. By default, shared dashboards run on each viewer’s own connections, so sharing a link does not hand someone data they could not already reach.
- Organization boundaries. On Team and Enterprise plans, dashboards stay inside the organization unless an owner enables external sharing, which Anthropic says can include anyone with the link, if the admin allows it.
- Enterprise switch. Dashboards and Motion are off by default for Enterprise until an admin enables them under Organization settings, then Artifacts.
Anthropic’s announcement does not describe how long dashboard data is stored or whether it is used for training, so ask your admin or check the Help Center before connecting regulated data. For comparison, OpenAI says its Data agent enforces the connected account’s existing table, row and column permissions, per The New Stack’s reporting.
Common Misconceptions
Three misreadings of the Claude Dashboards launch keep circulating, and each one can cost you time, money or trust. The corrections below rest on Anthropic’s own pages and release notes rather than on commentary, so you can verify each one yourself in a minute.
“Claude Dashboards is free now.”
It is not. Anthropic describes Dashboards as in beta “on paid plans,” and Motion as Team and Enterprise only. The “free on every plan” statement applies to Docs, Slides and Design, which were already free since September 16, 2026, according to Anthropic’s release notes.
“I can point it at my Google Sheet.”
Not according to Anthropic’s announcement, which lists data platforms and CRM connectors and does not mention Sheets, CSV or Drive. A third-party test from tl;dv describes a sheet-based live artifact that needed a sheet shared with “anyone with the link,” but that is a different Claude feature and an unconfirmed route, so do not rely on it for private data. For Sheets, use Anthropic’s separate Google Workspace add-on, which works inside your open file under your Google sharing permissions.
“It replaces a BI tool.”
Claude Dashboards does not replace business intelligence software. Anthropic itself says it works “alongside your BI and analytics tools.” The New Stack noted that its feature set cannot replace specialized BI tools. Use it to explore, then move anything the company depends on into a governed dashboard.

The Bottom Line
Claude Dashboards is a real and useful idea with a narrower audience than its launch headlines suggested: paid-plan users whose data already sits in a warehouse or CRM, ideally with an admin who can connect it. Its best feature is that every number shows the query behind it, which makes it a draft you can audit. If you live in spreadsheets, start with Claude for Google Workspace instead and revisit Dashboards when your data moves.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is Claude Dashboards? Claude Dashboards is a beta feature Anthropic launched on October 8, 2026. You connect a data platform such as Snowflake, BigQuery or Databricks, or a CRM connector such as Salesforce, ask a question in plain language, and Claude builds a dashboard that refreshes as the data changes.
Is Claude Dashboards free? No. Anthropic says Claude Dashboards is in beta on paid plans. Claude Motion, the animation tool launched alongside it, is limited to Team and Enterprise. Docs, Slides and Design are the pieces available on every plan, including Free.
Can Claude Dashboards use a Google Sheet? Anthropic’s launch announcement does not list Google Sheets, CSV files or Google Drive as Dashboards data sources, so Sheets support is unconfirmed. For spreadsheets, Anthropic’s separate Claude for Google Workspace add-on, launched October 6, can build pivot tables and native Sheets charts inside the sheet.
Can I trust the numbers in a Claude dashboard? Check them. Each number can be clicked to show the query behind it, and each chart shows when its data was last refreshed. Read the query, confirm it filters the right dates and records, and compare one figure against a source you already trust.
Who can see a dashboard I build in Claude? A dashboard starts private to you. When you share it, each viewer’s own connections run its queries by default, so people see only data they already have access to. On Team and Enterprise plans, dashboards stay inside the organization unless an owner turns on external sharing.
Does Claude Dashboards replace Tableau or Power BI? No. Anthropic positions it for quick, exploratory questions and offers a hand-off to BI tools such as Hex, Grafana, Sigma and PostHog, with Looker, monday.com and Tableau listed as coming soon. Governed, scheduled, company-wide reporting still belongs in a BI tool.
